So what's the big deal about essential oils?
Essential Oils have been used for centuries not just for their interesting and exotic scents but for their healing properties. Way back when, way before big pharma the ancients used natural herbs to cure their ailments. Now that's not to say you should start throwing away your medications and start using essential oils but adding them with doctors supervision may help in ways you never expected. One thing you must keep in mind is that not all essential oils are created equal. There are varying degrees of potency and most are cut with a carrier oil. So it's important read the labels for the percentage of essential oil it contains.
Essential oils are a highly concentrated essences derived from plants. Used today in aromatherapy and fragrances they have a long history in natural healing. The oils harness the plant's therapeutic properties to restore balance to the mind, body and spirit. So without giving you a long explanation of compounds and chemistry I'm going to give you some examples of what certain plants are used for.
Some of the most common ones that I'm sure you have heard of are, Chamomile (calming and helps balance emotions) Lavender (deeply relaxing) Rosemary ( essential oil can clear the mind and enhance focus.
A few you may not know are that Tea Tree oil (antiseptic, boosts immunity, fights skin infection, heals cuts, scrapes and bruises when diluted with 1 part tea tree 10 % witch hazel.
Cedarwood (Antiseptic and astringent it balances and tones complexions and facilitates healing in skin infections. Soothes skin and is helpful in easing itchy, irritated skin. Its uplifting qualities treat fatigue as well as aid focus. This is one of the oils we use in our shaving soaps.)
Mimosa (Not the kind you have at brunch on a Sunday, however there may be a reason the beverage was named such. Warming and relaxing, mimosa is a popular addition to perfumes. In skincare products is has a soothing calming actions and helps relieve tension and lifts spirits. Mimosa oil is best used as a bath oil.)
Frankincense is an oil that seems to be making a resurgence. (important in toning and invigorating the complexion, especially in sun damaged and mature skin. It's distinct aroma soothes and calms frayed nerves. Tones skin helps close pores. It's rejuvenating qualities make it excellent for helping in minimizing wrinkles.
I could go on and on but I'm sure you get the idea. I only highlighted some of the things that these herbs do. In my work I research these various herbs and oils in order to put together a product that benefits both body and mind. This is also one of the reasons I do small batch processing plus I like to be creative and not make the same thing over and over again. I hope this helped to enlighten you as to why I only use essential oils and if you have never tried a soap or bath products with essentials oils you should give ours a try.
Love and light to all! Maria
